Nine women received the Women Hero Awards as part of the sixth annual Celebrating Womanhood Gala event organized by the Indo-Canadian arts and Culture Initiative.
Mokshi Virk, Director of Indo Canadian arts & Culture Initiative (ICACI) organized her highly successful 6th annual Celebrating Womanhood Gala event and Awards show at Red Rose Convention Centre, Mississauga.
“CELEBRATING WOMANHOOD” is a Gala event to inspire, honor and applaud some fabulous women. This evening is an attempt to recognize the work and contribution of Indo-Canadian women and honor them.
The award ceremony honored nine women heroes from different walks of life, who have contributed to the society while achieving professional success.
This year, ICACI recognized the achievements of the following people:
Lifetime Achievement Award- Dr. Asha Seth
Performing Arts – Gayathridevi Vijayakumar
Business – Sukhdeep Kang
Community service- Urz Heer
Diversity – Patricia Gonsalves
Media – Haleema Sadia
Entrepreneur- Shivani Sharma Gupta
Education – Chitralekha Potnis
Young Achievers- Simran Mann
This year’s event was planned along similar lines and had some inspiring traditional Bharatnatyam performance by renowned artist Jhinook Mukherjee Sinha. She is a panel artist of Govt. of India. She has traveled across the globe for her performances and workshops since 2005. There were some other Bollywood fusion and classical South Asian performances, fashion show, a great networking opportunity with eminent speakers and an awards ceremony honoring Woman Heroes from different fields.
Many prominent personalities from the GTA were in attendance at the event include, MPP Harinder Malhi, MP Sangha, and City Councillor Jeff Bowman and Kathy McDonald. Peel District Board Trustee besides other distinguished personalities in attendance included corporate executives, entrepreneurs, professionals, artists, social figures, and media persons. This fabulous colorful evening showcased Ganesh Vandana, traditional Indian classical dance, Bollywood Fusion dance performances and glamorous fashion show. The organizers worked hard to showcase a rich Art &Culture of India and made sure that guests had a wonderful time at the event while enjoying the traditional performances, glamorous fashion show, socializing and networking.
