Big Blow to the Common Man: Domestic LPG Cylinder Gets Costlier
In a fresh wave of inflation, the common man has been hit hard as the central government has hiked the price of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹50. The 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, which was earlier priced at ₹803, will now cost ₹853. This announcement was made by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.
Puri stated that the price for PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries will increase from ₹500 to ₹550, while for other consumers, it will go up from ₹803 to ₹853. He further added that pricing is reviewed every 2-3 weeks and this hike will also be reviewed in due course.
New Prices in Major Cities:
- Delhi: ₹803 ➝ ₹853
- Chennai: ₹818.50 ➝ ₹868.50
- Mumbai: ₹802.50 ➝ ₹852.50
- Kolkata: ₹829.00 ➝ ₹879.00
It is noteworthy that the last revision in domestic LPG prices was in March 2024, when the government reduced the price by ₹100, providing some relief to households. However, the latest hike has now reversed that relief, further straining household budgets.
As a result of this price increase, kitchen expenses are expected to rise, and consumers will now have to shell out more for their cooking gas needs.
