Brampton stormwater charge to increase beginning June 1
The Voice of Canada : As of June 1, 2024, Brampton residents will see a 3.4 per cent increase to stormwater charges on their Region of Peel water bill.
The stormwater charge is a dedicated funding source to keep our stormwater drainage system in good working order and to plan for costly repairs in the future. Stormwater management reduces flooding, erosion and pollution in Brampton.
Stormwater is rain and melted snow flowing from properties onto streets and into the City’s stormwater drainage system, which includes more than 1,900 kilometres of storm sewer pipes and over 189 stormwater ponds.
As Brampton’s population grows and more frequent and intense storms occur, the amount of runoff from roofs and parking lots increases. If left uncontrolled, runoff can cause flooding, erosion and environmental and property damage.
The City is committed to maintaining and improving stormwater infrastructure through day-to-day operations and maintenance as well as long-term planning and construction.
