City of Brampton joins list of Top Green Fleets in North America as sole Canadian city
The Voice of Canada – The City of Brampton has been ranked as a Top Green Fleet in the prestigious 2023 Green Fleet Awards competition, by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) Fleet Management Association. This is the first time the City has received this award, and it is the only Canadian City to make the list.
The Green Fleet Awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship in fleet management.
The City of Brampton’s commitment to create a more sustainable fleet is part of an ongoing efforts to achieve shared net-zero emissions goals by 2050 and has resulted in a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality.
Brampton remains committed to exploring and adopting innovative solutions that further enhance its environmental performance, promote a cleaner and healthier environment, and contribute to the global fight against climate change.
Brampton’s Fleet Services Team is a key contributor to the development of the City’s plan for a sustainable fleet strategy and is leading the way in creating a more sustainable fleet of vehicles and machinery. Through its City-wide motor pool and is actively evaluating fleet analytics including usage, models, fuel types, alternatives, and driver habits to optimize vehicle use and shape future operations.
Currently, Fleet Services is transforming its fleet to reduce emissions and contribute to meeting the City’s net-zero goals by:
• Replacing 34 diesel vehicles with hybrid vehicles
• Replacing 36 gasoline vehicles with fully-electric vehicles
• Replacing 22 propane ice re-surfacers with natural gas ice re-surfacers
• Continuing the use of 10 fully electric turf maintenance equipment
• Acquiring an additional 35 fully electric vehicles
NAFA Fleet Management Association is the membership organization for professionals who manage the mobility requirements of vehicle fleets that include commercial, public safety, trucks, and buses of all types and sizes; and a wide range of military and off-road equipment for corporations, governments, universities, utility fleets, and law enforcement in North America and across the globe. NAFA’s members are responsible for the specification, acquisition, maintenance, repair, fueling, risk management, and remarketing of more than 4.8 million vehicles that drive an estimated 84 billion miles each year. NAFA’s members control assets and services well above $122 billion each year.
