City of Brampton recognizes Fire Prevention Week October 4 to 10
The Voice of Canada News:
From October 4 to 10, the City of Brampton is observing Fire Prevention Week and educating residents on staying safe while cooking. This year’s theme is “Always stay in the kitchen while cooking”.
Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires in Brampton. To stay safe while cooking, residents can follow these simple steps:
• Always stay in the kitchen while cooking
• Eliminate all distractions while cooking, including your cell phone or television
• If you need to leave the kitchen while cooking, turn the stove off and remove the pot or pan from the burner
• Never cook when sleepy or under the influence of alcohol or cannabis
• Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop (e.g. oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels, curtains)
• Wear short or tight sleeves when cooking
