Cyber Fraud Cases on the Rise in Chandigarh: Victims Lose Over ₹1.1 Crore
The Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector 17, Chandigarh, has registered multiple cases of online fraud, with victims losing substantial amounts of money in investment scams, car purchase fraud, and work-from-home scams.
In one of the biggest cases, Kanav Khanna, a resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh, was duped of ₹1.08 crore by unknown fraudsters in an online trading investment scam. The police have registered an FIR No. 22 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Information Technology (IT) Act, and an investigation is underway.
Another case involves Guridyal Singh, a resident of Sector 22, Chandigarh, who was cheated out of ₹14.13 lakh by an accused identified as Rameshvar Kambalye in a fraudulent car purchase deal. An FIR No. 23 has been lodged, and authorities are working on tracking down the suspect.
A third incident was reported by Raij Kumar, a resident of Sector 20/A, Chandigarh, who lost ₹60,767 to an online scam related to a work-from-home job offer. The police have registered FIR No. 24 and are investigating the matter.
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious while making online transactions and avoid falling prey to fraudulent investment schemes, online job offers, and dubious car purchase deals. The Cyber Crime Police Station is actively working to trace the culprits and recover the defrauded amounts.
