Diabetes Awareness Highlights Canada Day Celebration by Flower City Friends Club

The Flower City Friends Club (FCFC) celebrated Canada Day in grand style at the Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre in Brampton, with over 100 senior members participating in the festivities. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Sonia Sidhu, MP for Brampton, who opened the celebrations with the singing of the Canadian national anthem.
In addition to the Canada Day celebrations, the event featured a health seminar focused on diabetic issues among the South Asian community, particularly within the Punjabi community. This seminar was part of the FCFC’s “Health Matters” series. Ms. Neha Kaushal, a certified diabetic consultant, conducted the seminar, discussing the causes and myths surrounding diabetes. The seminar emphasized the importance of regular exercise and reduced sugar intake for maintaining good health.
Shafqat Ali, MP for Brampton Centre, attended the event as the chief guest. He praised the club’s efforts in promoting health awareness and community spirit. “It is essential for our community to stay informed about health issues like diabetes, and I commend the Flower City Friends Club for their dedication to our well-being,” said Ali.
Maninder Sidhu, MP, and Ruby Sahota, MP, also graced the event with their presence. “Celebrating Canada Day with our senior community members and focusing on health education is truly inspiring,” said Sidhu. Sahota added, “The FCFC’s initiatives are crucial in fostering a healthier and more connected community.”
Paul Vicente, Regional Councillor for Brampton, attended the event and shared his thoughts: “The Flower City Friends Club is doing remarkable work in bringing our community together and addressing important health issues. Their efforts are truly commendable.”
In a special message, Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, appreciated the Flower City Friends Club’s contributions: “The FCFC’s commitment to promoting health and celebrating our nation’s diversity is a testament to the vibrant spirit of Brampton. I applaud their efforts and look forward to their future initiatives.”
Gian Paul, Chairperson of the Flower City Friends Club, inaugurated the event and highlighted the significance of Canada Day and the importance of health matters for seniors. He expressed his gratitude to the club members and assured them of another exciting event next month.
The celebrations were enriched with cultural songs, Gidha dance performances, and delicious Punjabi food, making the evening enjoyable for all attendees.
