IGNORING WARNING SIGNALS FOR DEBACLE OF CONGRESS

By Sanjay Pahwa :

It was anybody’s guess that during Lok Sabha elections 2019 Congress Party was not going to gain the ground. The reasons were obvious. The big stalwarts like Kamal Nath (MP) and Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan) were busy in promoting their own sons by inducting them into the politics for 2019 elections. Secondly, the alliance or no alliance with Mahagathbadhan in UP was another factor which was outrightly rejected apparently from both sides but more prominently by BSP supremo Ms. Mayavati. Alliance with AAP in Delhi could not emerge despite strenuous efforts by the then Chief Minister Delhi, Sheila Dixit and present Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.

The differences for alliance came to the front fore right in the beginning. Priyanka Gandhi, no doubt contributed through her roadshows in different parts of the country including UP but was unable to connect with the masses. Rahul Gandhi the Congress President might have travelled extensively and organized rallies more than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi but could not strike the chord because of poor slogan ‘Ab Hoga Nyay’ and ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ The response during rallies was also dismal and thus the Congress president perhaps ignored the warning signals of the debacle of his party. On the top of Rahul took it granted that Lok Sabha seat in Amethi constituency was the proprietary item of Congress and thus not made many visits in his constituency. But somehow, fear of failure prevailed because of countless visits to Amethi by Smriti Irani during her campaigns.

Thus keeping the likelihood of defeat in Amethi he opted for another seat for fighting the election from Wayanad constituency. Though Rahul won the election from Waynad but terribly lost from Amethi. The dismal defeat in the 17th general elections, the Congress president has offered his resignation from his party post. The outcome of the resignation by Rahul Gandhi requires no speculation.

Now the time has come that Congress needs to introspect about the mandate of the people and should come out of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. The present debacle of the Congress party clearly indicates that warning signals were ignored by the majority of Congress players but even by Congress President as well.
