Distribution of Aids & Appliances to Divyangjans

The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration has organized a three-day camp from 2nd – 4th December, 2020 for “Distribution of Aids and Appliances to Divyangjans” (under ADIP Scheme) in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) at Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, Chandigarh in
order to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities focussing on the theme i.e. “building back better: towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 world by, for and with persons with disabilities.
The three-day Distribution Camp was virtually inaugurated by the Chief Guest, V. P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator U.T., Chandigarh, from Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh. The Hon’ble Administrator of U.T., Chandigarh, envisioned that the distribution of rehabilitative aids will ameliorate the lifestyle of Divyangjans and would open opportunities at their workplace. In his inaugural address, the Hon’ble Administrator of U.T.,
Chandigarh announced that 591 Aids and Appliances including artificial limbs, motorized tri-cycles, wheelchairs, smart canes, smart phones, daisy players, Braille kits etc. will be distributed free of cost to 328 beneficiaries having multiple disabilities. The occasion was also virtually graced by Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, from Raj
Bhawan.

The three-day Distribution Camp was organised in accordance with the SOP/Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India amid Covid19 pandemic. Accordingly, 328 beneficiaries were systematically divided into small batches of approximately 40 beneficiaries each for collecting the allocated aids and appliances from Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, Chandigarh. On the first day of the camp i.e. 2.12.2020, Aids and Appliances were distributed to 100 plus beneficiaries.
The officials of the Ministry of Labour & Employment had also set up a career counselling desk for Divyangjans visiting the distribution camp with a prime objective to evaluate & assess their capacity and suitability for various employment opportunities.
The initiative taken by the Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development and ALIMCO for organizing a three-day Distribution Camp of rehabilitative aids was appreciated by the Chief Guest as such events will ensure that equal rights and opportunities are accessible to the Persons with Disabilities.
