Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, RWAs and MWAs to join hands to make the campaign big success

Chandigarh, City Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla reviewed the arrangements for ‘walk for Drug Free Chandigarh’ campaign in which MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, other Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer and other senior officers were present besides office bearers of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations, FOSWAC, CRAFED, Car Dealer Association and other associations were also present.
During the meeting the detailed plan was discussed for the upcoming state level event ‘walk for Drug Free Chandigarh’ scheduled to be organized on May 3, 2025.
The campaign, which will be led by Gulab Chand Kataria, the Governor Punjab and Administrator of UT, Chandigarh, is aimed at spreading awareness against drug abuse and encouraging community participation, particularly among the youth. The initiative focuses on raising education and awareness, strengthening voluntarism, and fostering collective action to combat the menace of drugs in society.
During the meeting, the Mayor emphasized the importance of proactive community engagement and directed that maximum participation from RWAs and MWAs be ensured for the event at their own level. She urged all stakeholders to collaborate and mobilize maximum support to make the campaign a grand success.
While speaking about the schedule, MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS said that a big programme will be organized at Sector 17 plaza by the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal while a similar programme will be organized at Sector 22 Market Welfare Association by dedicating a special corridor by fresh whitewash, illuminating the same and painting of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan slogans etc.
The Commissioner further said that under the campaign special programmes will be organized in all the community centres throughout city during which Nukkar Natakas, Plays and awareness videos will be showcased besides live telecast of the main programme scheduled to be held at Tiranga Park, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
He further said that the “Walk for Drug Free Chandigarh” seeks to build a united front against drug abuse and promote a healthier and safer environment for the citizens. The Municipal Corporation remains committed to supporting such initiatives that contribute to the betterment of the city and the well-being of its people, added the Commissioner.
