The Voice of Canada News:
In Ken Whillans Square, Mayor Patrick Brown launched the 2020 Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign.
Mayor Brown was joined by Comrade Christopher Banks, 2nd Vice-President & Poppy Chairman, Branch 15 Brampton, Royal Canadian Legion, for a short ceremony with remarks and a flag raising. City Councillor Jeff Bowman, Wards 3 & 4, and Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi, Wards 2 & 6, were also in attendance.
The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign runs from October 30 until November 11. Funds raised from this campaign directly support Canada’s serving and retired veterans and their families, while helping to ensure Canadians never forget the tremendous efforts of those who serve the country. Residents and visitors can donate to the Poppy Campaign in exchange for a poppy at various business locations in Brampton.
Remembrance Day 2020 – online service
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the City of Brampton will honour Remembrance Day 2020 virtually on November 11, alongside Royal Canadian Legion Branches 15 and 609. There will be no in-person events this year.
Brampton’s Veterans of War and those who made the ultimate sacrifice will be honoured on the City’s Brampton Remembers webpage and flags at all City of Brampton facilities will be flown at half-mast.
The webpage will go live on November 11 at 10:55 am, featuring a virtual service including a Moment of Silence, Placing of Wreaths, and videos of Brampton veterans on what Remembrance Day means to them.
As a tribute to Brampton’s Veterans of War, the City will hang banners along Main Street and Queen Street in downtown Brampton.
