MC Commissioner Amit Kumar Urges Citizens to Pay Property Tax for AY 2025-26 on time and avail rebate benefits
No further extension of rebate benefits after 31st May
Chandigarh, May 22:- MC Chandigarh Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS urged to all property owners of city beautiful Chandigarh and institutions to deposit their Property Tax/Service Charges for the Assessment Year 2025-26 within the prescribed timelines to avoid penalties and avail attractive rebates before 31st May, 2025. He made it clear that no further extension of the rebate period will be granted.
According to the official notification, taxpayers can receive up to 20% rebate on Residential Lands and Buildings and 10% rebate on Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, and Government properties if the payment is made by:
- 31st May 2025 (for Cash/Online payments)
- 27th May 2025 (for Cheque/Demand Draft payments)
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar emphasized the role of tax compliance in the development of the city, stating:
- “Timely payment of property tax ensures better delivery of essential municipal services and development works. We encourage every citizen to contribute responsibly to Chandigarh’s progress by availing the rebates and avoiding penalties.”
- He further said that payments made after 31st May 2025 will incur an additional 25% penalty, along with 12% annual interest, applicable from 1st April 2025 till the month of payment.
Payment Methods:
- Online: Through the official website – www.mcchandigarh.gov.in
- Offline: Via Cheque or Demand Draft at any Sampark Centre in Chandigarh
Cheques/Drafts should be drawn in favour of:
- “Residential Property Tax Commissioner, MC Chandigarh” – for residential properties
- “Property Tax Commissioner, MC Chandigarh” – for all other categories
Additional Notes:
- Garbage Collection Fee for the financial year will also be collected along with the property tax for Commercial, Institutional, and Government buildings where not already included in water bills.
- Government buildings will be liable to pay service charges at 75% of the applicable property tax.
