Mokshi Virk was recognized with Citizen Award in “Inspiration “category by The City of Brampton on May 24th 2018 at Rose Theatre, Brampton. The City of Brampton recognizes outstanding individuals who have made achievements and contributions within the City of Brampton in a year.

Director of a Not-for-Profit, Realtor, Events organizer, TV & Radio Host, socially conscientious citizen, doting mother, caring wife, dear friend and an exemplary example to the community, Mokshi Virk is all of these things.

She is one of the few people who are willing to walk the extra mile for the benefit of the community. A successful Real Estate Broker with Homelife Silver City Realty Inc, Mokshi is already a busy woman helping her clients buy and sell property and holding homebuyer’s seminars and workshops for her clients.

But despite that Mokshi always manages to take time out to do something for her community, as her way of giving back. “Being a realtor is financially satisfying but doing something for your community is emotionally satisfying.”

It was this sentiment that led to Mokshi’s hosting her first Celebrating Womanhood event in 2013 in Brampton. What started as a humble sole endeavor in 2013 about celebrating and recognizing women heroes is now a Non-profit organization Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative (ICACI) with a whole GTA community supporting it as she had a Sold-out event in March this year.

Celebrating Womanhood Gala event has seen its sixth year and this year we saw Mokshi won two prestigious Awards on the occasion of International women’s day celebration, one for “Community Support” from Absolutely Fabulous women and “International women’s Day Award” this year. Besides this, she received an outstanding “Inspirational Citizen Award” from the City of Brampton.

Last year, Mokshi was recognized with “Woman of Action Award-2017” by Peel Woman Entrepreneur Group and “Community Initiative Award 2017” from International Women’s Association.

With a Master’s degree in English and Bachelor’s in Public Relations and Mass Communications from Punjab University, Mokshi’s entrepreneurial achievements include hosting and organizing the community and fundraising events in GTA. She has worked as a volunteer “Chair of School council” at the Sir William Gage Middle School and Queen Street Public School in Brampton and she loves helping new immigrants build social connections and get comfortable with the settling phase in Canada.

Her philanthropic activities include organizing programs and providing leadership to support various charities and non-profit organization such as MS Walk, LANGAR SEVA as a volunteer – setting up and hosting  the event, to meeting and greeting the participants, organizing Art workshops & Exhibitions and multi-cultural performances to promote Arts & culture in our diverse communities.

She has been an event convener for social and cultural events like “Culture Day” Celebration & Indian festivals like Holi and Diwali. She has been invited as a Guest speaker at “ACCESS Employment” to share her experiences with new immigrants and speak about “Role of Mentorship” at Indo Canadian chamber of commerce (ICCC). She has been active member of ICCC “Mentorship & New Immigrants” committee and a member of Brampton Board of Trade “International Trade Committee”.

Building a stronger community where she lives with her family and runs her real estate business and non-profit organization is a very important to her. She encourages local business network to support the events that would enable women entrepreneurs to showcase their talent and achieve excellence.

As women of today, she believes we must lead our society into a new paradigm of recognition and equal opportunities. In today’s age, women work full-time contributing to the advancement of country and humankind. She is working towards building a better world where men and women live harmoniously, free of violence and discrimination.
