Ontario’s Government for the People Marks Ground-breaking of New Huron County Ontario Provincial Police Detachment
State-of-the-art facility will ensure local communities continue to receive modern, efficient police services

Ontario’s Government for the People is investing $20 million to build a new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment in Clinton, so communities in Huron County continue to receive modern, cost-efficient and high-quality police services essential to public safety.
Sylvia Jones, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Monte McNaughton, Minister of Infrastructure, and Lisa M. Thompson, Minister of Education, and Member of Provincial Parliament for Huron – Bruce, were at the construction site today to take part in the official ground-breaking.
“Ensuring OPP detachments across the province are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that respond to the demands of modern policing is essential to keeping our communities safe,” said Minister Jones. “This new detachment will ensure that provincial police have the resources they need to serve and protect the people of Huron County.”
The Huron County detachment is one of nine included in the OPP Modernization – Phase 2 project that will eventually replace some aging facilities that are at the end of their useful lifespan and no longer meet the requirements of modern police operations.
“The new facility will provide a healthy and safe workplace environment for the uniform members and civilian staff assigned to the Huron County OPP,” said Brad Blair, Interim Commissioner, OPP.
“The new detachment will make sure the brave men and women who keep us safe have the right tools they need to do their jobs. This new facility will also create jobs and stimulate our local economy,” said Minister Thompson.
As part of a $182 million investment announced earlier this year to replace aging OPP facilities, the construction of the detachment in Clinton is now underway with substantial completion expected to occur in late 2020.
“Infrastructure is truly for the people. It is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about improving people’s lives. This new OPP detachment in Huron County will help make residents in this community safer. At the same time, it will help stimulate our economy, create jobs and help make Ontario competitive again,” noted Monte McNaughton, Minister of Infrastructure.

The new Huron County detachment will be located at 325 Albert St. in Clinton.
The detachment will provide space and infrastructure that support changing technology requirements, spacious and secure evidence vaults, six holding cells as well as CCTV and other advanced security features.
The OPP Modernization – Phase 2 project is being delivered through Infrastructure Ontario’s Public-Private Partnership (P3) model, a modern project delivery method which transfers risks associated with design, construction and financing of the project to the private sector.
Infrastructure Ontario worked with MCSCS and the OPP to deliver Phase 1 of the modernization project successfully in 2012.
Taxpayers are guaranteed a fixed price for the nine detachments.
The building will be fully accessible and designed to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Standard – the standard that recognizes buildings with reduced environmental impacts.
