Ottawa and Quebec City Provide Financial Assistance to Gibiers Canabec for the Implementation of a Quality Management System

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec support enhancing the competitiveness of food-processing companies.
Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, and Laurent Lessard, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food announced financial assistance of up to $90,000 to Gibiers Canabec inc. for the company’s project to implement a recognized HACCP/FSEP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point / Food Safety Enhancement Program) quality management system.
The financial assistance is being provided through the Quebec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food’s Programme Levier, which is jointly funded under the Growing Forward 2 agreement.

- The Gibiers Canabec inc. project for which this financial assistance is being provided is part of a major comprehensive investment plan that includes developing new markets in Canada, improving brand recognition and increasing production volumes as well as consolidating 85 existing jobs and creating 7 positions in production and quality control in the first year. The implementation of a recognized HACCP/FSEP system will benefit the company by, among other things, allowing it to become federally registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
- The Programme Levier is aimed at food-processing companies of varying sizes, both individual firms and corporate groups, as well as food industry sector associations and not-for-profit organizations, depending on the program component. For 2016–2017, just over $1.6 million in funding was granted through the Programme Levier.
In July 2017, the federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) ministers of agriculture reached an agreement in principle on the key elements of the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a five-year, $3‑billion FPT investment. The Partnership, which is set to launch on April 1, 2018, will build a solid foundation for the future of Canada’s farmers and food processors and continue to help them grow, innovate and prosper.
