Peel Regional Police – Charges Laid in Fatal Collision in Mississauga

Region of Peel– Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau have charged a man in relation to the fatal collision that claimed the life of an 19-year-old man in Mississauga.

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, just after midnight, police were contacted to attend the intersection of Hurontario Street and Mineola Road in the City of Mississauga for a report of a three vehicle collision.

As a result of the collision,  a 19-year-old man from Mississauga was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After the collision, one of the drivers attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested by attending officers. He was taken to a local hospital, as was a woman who had been in his car, both with non-life threatening injuries. A man and a woman from one of the three vehicles were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries, however, they were not transported to hospital.

Peter Simms, a 46-year-old man from Orangeville, has been charged with Operation While Impaired Causing Death, Dangerous Operation Causing Death and Failure to Stop After Accident Resulting in Death. He has two previous convictions for Impaired Driving.

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on October 10, 2020.

“Making the choice to drive while impaired is inexcusable. Peel Regional Police will be relentless in our efforts to take impaired drivers off our roads. Our hearts go out to this young victim and his family.” said Deputy Chief Marc Andrews.
