Peel Regional Police – Second Arrest Made In Large Scale Auto Crime
The Voice of Canada :
Investigators from the Commercial Auto Crime Bureau have arrested a second individual in connection to an unlicensed car dealer and broker facilitating the sale and transfer of vehicles.
On March 7, 2024 police arrested 24-year-old Milton Hylton and charged him with 168 auto crime offences. It is alleged that between June 2023 and early 2024, it is alleged that 24-year-old Milton, alongside accomplices, made several fraudulent transactions through the Ministry of Transportation (M.T.O.) and Service Ontario across the province, with over 100 vehicles involved.
Investigators believe that Milton utilized loopholes in the Service Ontario procedures that allow “authorized” individuals to conduct third-party transactions to register a vehicle.
Several vehicles that were illegally registered have been identified as re-vin vehicles.
Police have contacted several victims, individuals, and businesses who have had vehicles registered to their name without authorization.
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, investigators arrested Milton’s sister, 25-year-old Monifa Taffe-Hylton of Brampton. She is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton to answer to 36 Criminal Offences of Uttering Forged Documents and Trafficking of Stolen Goods.
This investigation remains ongoing, and investigators anticipate additional arrests and charges laid.
This is a large-scale crime affecting many vehicles in multiple jurisdictions across Ontario. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance in locating additional victims and vehicles.
Police are encouraging members of the public who have purchased or conducted business dealings with Milton or Monifa or the advertised company of “Royalty in The Building” to contact the Peel Regional Police Commercial Auto Crime Bureau at 905-453-3311 extension 3313 or via email at autocrime@peelpolice.ca
