Peel Regional Police – Stolen Vehicle Investigation Leads to Firearms Seizure

Region of Peel – Uniform officers from 21 Division have arrested and charged two people with drug and firearm offences during a stolen vehicle investigation.
On October 5, 2020 at 3:00 a.m., officers from 21 Division located a stolen vehicle driving in the area of Bovaird Avenue and Torbram Road in Brampton. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle for further investigation, the occupants fled on foot. Two of the vehicles occupants were quickly located and apprehended by the K-9 unit with the assistance of uniform officers. Investigation revealed that the suspects were in possession approximately 1 kg of marijuana, and a 22 calibre rifle, loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.
Jahliq Sheilds, an 18-year-old man from Brampton and a 17-year-old youth also from Brampton were each charged with possession of the stolen property, and drug and firearms-related offences. Both accused were held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Brampton on October 5, 2020.
A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
