Working together to drive economic growth and boost job creation will benefit Canadians nationwide

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Québec Premier Philippe Couillard released the following statement today at the summer meeting of the Council of the Federation:
“Together Ontario and Québec are Canada’s economic engine, responsible for over half of Canada’s total GDP. We know that when our shared economy is strong, Canada’s economy is strong. Today, that partnership is needed more than ever.
Within Canada, Ontario and Québec are each other’s largest trading partner and form the largest manufacturing centre in Canada. That is why we agreed here today to work side-by-side to identify opportunities to strengthen our economies and advance our economic interests between our two provinces and with the United States.
Stimulating job growth, attracting businesses and investment and helping the people of Ontario and Québec find the good jobs they deserve are key priorities. Both Premiers emphasized the importance of supply management to the Canadian economy.
We will continue to find ways to improve trade, reduce regulatory burdens and cut red tape by asking our economically focused Ministers to work together and report back to the Premiers.
Ontario and Québec are open for business and ready to lead Canada in the face of an evolving global economic trade environment.”
