Reference to Religion Removed from the 2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada

The Voice of Canada News :

Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, has been working diligently alongside Sikh and Muslim community leaders and the
Office of the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to remove language used in the 2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada that unintentionally maligned certain communities.

“Canada’s security and intelligence agencies constantly assess and reassess all data to be effective in keeping Canadians safe. However, it is important that the language our agencies and departments use is respectful and inclusive,” said MP Sahota. “Words matter. We must never equate any one community or entire religions with extremism. That is why the terms “Sikh”, “Sunni”, and “Shia” have been removed from the report.”
