REPUBLIC DAY MESSAGE OF PUNJAB GOVERNOR AND ADMINISTRATOR CHANDIGARH
Fellow citizens,
On the auspicious occasion of our 72nd Republic Day, I extend my heartiest greetings and felicitations to all the Indians living in Punjab and abroad. I also send my greetings to the brave personnel of our armed forces who are guarding and defending the borders of our country thereby protecting the unity and territorial integrity of the Nation.
On this occasion my thoughts go back to millions of unsung heroes of the freedom struggle, who lived and died valiantly, for the freedom of our nation and also to the countless men and women who faced immense sufferings in the struggle for Independence of our country.
The world ‘REPUBLIC‘ is not an ordinary world. It is a commitment to the effect that, in our State, supreme power is exercised by the people. This historic occasion is a day of rejoicing, as today we enjoy the status of being the world’s largest democracy and one of the major players in the world.
A Special emphasis has been laid, at national and state levels, in recent years on rapid and more inclusive growth with the focus on bringing about social equality through the reduction of poverty and empowering our people by adopting multi-pronged strategies.
The unprecedented contribution of Punjab to the cause of Freedom of our country is unmatched anywhere in the history of the world. The great martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Dewan Singh Kalepani and many more who shed every drop of their blood and had languished in jails, have left a rich legacy for all of us which demands unbounded love and respect of our motherland besides firm commitment to preserve India’s glory and independence.
I was extremely happy to be a part of the prestigious Military Literature Festival, an annual feature organized jointly by the
Government of Punjab, Chandigarh Administration and the Western Command Chandi Mandir. This time, the fourth edition, because of the pandemic, was inaugurated virtually by Hon’ble Defence Minister of India, Sh. Raj Nath Singh Ji and was widely attended all across the world.
Given the rich martial traditions of the region of Punjab, it comes as no surprise that this region is a treasure cove of military events since times immemorial, thus simmering in unlimited tales of military invasions, campaigns and battles with the natural abundance of battlefield heroics, sacrifices and events that’s steered the course of not only the region, but the country as a whole.
On this occasion, I would like to recall that the entire world remained in the grip of the Coronavirus for the past more than one year. There has been a lot of suffering because of this Pandemic. But it is worth mentioning here that the timely initiatives taken by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, the situation by and large remained under control. Now with the approval of India made vaccine, the Covid Free Bharat campaign has further been strengthened.
On this historic day, I congratulate the innovators scientists, Civil and Police Officers of Chandigarh and Punjab appearing in our daily War Room Reviews meetings on COVID, Ex-servicemen, Doctors, Para medics, NGOs, Voluntary Organisations and the Media involved in the war against Covid. I also appreciate the people of Punjab and Chandigarh for their unstinted support and cooperation to the Government during these trying times.
Let us renew our pledge, on this historic day, to the ideals of secularism, nationalism, patriotism and to work with dedication to make Punjab and the country strong and vibrant.
JAI HIND.
