The Untold Stories of Niagara Falls

A natural wonder unlike any other, the history of Niagara Falls goes back to thousands of years, roughly to the Ice Age when Niagara River came into existence by the release of large torrents of water from melting ice. Niagara Falls is both natural and man made. Since the 1820’s it has awed visitors for both its beauty and power, spanning the border of America and Canada offering different experiences from both sides.

The falls is actually made up of three waterfalls; the American Falls, the Horseshoe Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.

The power of the falls attracted industrialists to harness its force using water wheels to drive their mills and factories. Hydroelectricity is one of the most important products of Niagara Falls. Power plants on both the American and Canadian sides have the capacity to produce around 2.4 kilowatts of electricity.

Niagara Falls has been nicknamed the “Rainbow City.” On any given sunny day, a rainbow can be seen over the falls, adding to its charm. People travel from all over the globe to capture its beauty, but one can fully enjoy it only if you view the falls at night too. Each night the falls are illuminated by various colored lights creating a flowing rainbow of water which is a real treat for the eyes. The lights change every few minutes fading in and out, softening the effect of water. Many photographers have tried to capture the essence of Niagara Falls, but no picture could do justice. The city of Niagara Falls is full of immense activity, it is no wonder that Niagara Falls is a tourist town. The famous Rainbow Bridge, also connecting the U.S AND Canada also sees much travel during the tourist season. One can only comprehend the beauty of Niagara Falls through one’s own eyes. I am among the many people who have seen this amazing spectacle which nature has given us.
