THE VOICE OF CANADA NEWS
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) congratulates newly-appointed Minister of Tourism, Official Languages & La Francophonie the Honorable Mélanie Joly. TIAC also wishes to thank the outgoing Minister of Small Business and Tourism, the Honorable Bardish Chagger, who remains Government House Leader, for championing and supporting tourism since her appointment in 2015.
“We congratulate Minister Joly on her appointment as Minister of Tourism, Official Languages & La Francophonie following today’s cabinet shuffle,” said Charlotte Bell, TIAC’s President and CEO. “We look forward to working together with Minister Joly to continue to champion Canada’s vibrant tourism sector as we work towards meeting the goals of Canada’s New Tourism Vision (NTV). Canada is well poised to continue to grow and has experienced positive momentum over the past three years. As tourism is one of Canada’s key economic drivers and job creators, we are committed to working alongside Minister Joly in increasing Canada’s competitiveness in the global tourism market.”
“Minister Joly’s experience in the Canadian Heritage portfolio, particularly her leadership with Canada 150 celebrations provide welcome experience as she takes on her new role”, Bell added.
As the tourism sector continues to grow, currently contributing $97.4 billion to the economy, making up 2% of Canada’s GDP and creating 1.8 million jobs in every area of the country, we know that a globally competitive tourism industry requires policies and measures that foster growth. As such, we continue to advocate for progressive policies addressing our members’ priorities and in particular; labour, access, cost competitiveness and increased marketing funding for tourism. This is our continued commitment to our members and we look forward to working with Minister Joly on positively advancing these issues.
TIAC, its Board of Directors and its members wish to thank Minister Chagger for her work with us as a great partner and champion for Canadian tourism.
