Lieutenant General Surinder Singh, Army Commander, Western Command inaugurated the Married Accommodation Project (MAP) Phase – II at Suranussi and dedicated 180 houses to Other Ranks of Vajra Corps. Constructed on 06 Acres of land, the housing project comprises of 30 blocks of six houses each. Green building norms like rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plant and solar water heating systems have been incorporated in this project. The project has been a long standing demand of soldiers and will alleviate their hardships due to paucity of married accommodation.
The Army Commander also visited Jalandhar Military Station and inaugurated an Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) Lab as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Centre being established at Military Hospital Jalandhar in presence of Mrs Sukhwant Kaur, Regional President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). Infertility is a major concern having psychological, social and medical implications. To meet the requirements of the armed forces fraternity, IUI Lab was made functional today. Establishment of an ART Centre at Military Hospital Jalandhar with a total outlay of 1.41 Crore rupees represents a carefully modulated approach to address the issue of infertility. This facility is expected to act as a nodal centre for patients belonging to the Northern region of the country. The project also envisages establishing two more advance ART techniques to include In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intra Cytoplasm Sperm Injection (ICSI) which are planned to be operationalised in near future in next phase of the project.
Lt Gen Arvind Dutta, Corps Commander, Vajra Corps along with Mrs Simmi Dutta, Zonal President AWWA were present during the event.
