Associate Minister Nina Tangri Marks Small Business Week, Highlights Entrepreneurs’ Vital Role in Canada’s Economy
The Voice of Canada
Associate Minister Nina Tangri issued the following statement in recognition of Small Business Week:
“Over 500,000 small businesses across the province power Ontario’s economy, employing close to 2.5 million people. Whether it’s a restaurant, convenience store, independent pharmacy or small manufacturer, they deliver essential services, bring critical goods to market and create local jobs, all while building vibrant and connected communities.

As small business owners face significant challenges due to unjustified U.S. attacks on our economy, our government is continuing to deliver on our plan to protect Ontario’s small businesses and workers by making Ontario the most competitive place in the G7 to do business and create jobs. Through key actions our government has taken since 2018, we’re providing businesses with $12 billion in savings each year.
That’s why, in the 2026 Ontario Budget, we cut the small business corporate income tax rate from 3.2 per cent to 2.2 per cent, delivering $1.1 billion in relief and up to $5,000 in annual savings to over 375,000 small businesses. In the midst of economic challenges, the tax reduction allows business owners to manage costs, retain and hire staff, and plan for future growth.
We’re also investing a record $49 million over the next three years in our network of Ontario Small Business Advisory Centres (OSBACs), making it easier for entrepreneurs in every corner of the province to identify and access one-on-one consultations, training, provincial programs and grants at more than 50 locations across Ontario. Through ongoing investments in Futurpreneur and Summer Company, we’re also removing barriers for the next generation of Ontario entrepreneurs by increasing access to capital, networking opportunities and foundational training for young people across the province.
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, thank you to all small business owners, entrepreneurs and workers for your relentless determination, hard work and invaluable contributions to our province. I encourage everyone to continue protecting Ontario-made innovation and jobs by supporting your local businesses.
Happy Small Business Week.”
