‘Agriculture sector has taken a U-turn and again shifting towards organic farming as people are getting more concerned for their health and food safety’

Dr Ravinder Kumar, Deputy Director, Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Panchkula said that green revolution came in India in the 1960s as the country was not self – sufficient and India needed to import food grains. Now, the Agriculture sector has taken a U-turn and again shifting towards organic farming as people are getting more concerned for their health and food safety.
He further opined, “Changes in input alone are not enough for organic farming as it also requires farm management, soil management and farm design”. He was speaking at a session held on Organic Farming for safe and sustainable future during the CII Agro Tech India 2018.
BM Sharma, Executive Director, Markfed also announced that it will soon be opening Organic Counters in its various centres in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar and will also be collaborating with Verka in its efforts to create a sustainable market for the organic farmers. He further added, “There is a huge demand for organic produce in the International market but their three primary requirements viz. certification, traceability and labelling wherein traceability is the most important aspect.”
