Alberta Minister Aheer Statement on
Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day

The Voice of Canada News:

Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, issued the following statement on Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day:

“Ukrainian culture has been a part of Alberta’s story since before it became a province. From business and community leaders, to academics and artists, many Albertans can trace their roots back to early Ukrainian pioneers or recent immigrants.

“Many of us have fond memories of watching the colour and energy of traditional Ukrainian dancers, or eating a large plate of pyrohy. More than the traditions, art and cuisine, Albertans of Ukrainian heritage have helped build this province into what it is today, and continue to help lay the foundation for the future of our province.

“Celebrating our history and learning about our heritage helps define what makes Alberta so unique. Now, more than ever, we need to learn about each other, find common ground, and work together. Today, I encourage all Albertans to learn more about the history of their Ukrainian neighbours, and celebrate the many contributions they have made to our province.”
