Canadian Consulate-General partners with NGO to mark National Day of the Girl Child

Five hundred children participated in an event to highlight the importance of empowering the girl child, in Chandigarh. The event, which marked the National Day of the Girl Child, was organised jointly by the Consulate-General of Canada and Vatsal Chaya, a civil society organisation, working to provide educational opportunities for under-privileged children in urban environments. The event highlighted the importance of equal education opportunities for all girls.
Background information:
- The Consulate General of Canada in Chandigarh engaged with children in several activities which included a poster making competition on the theme of Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao, the presentation of the book “Like a Girl” for Vatsal Chaya Trust’s school library (features short stories about iconic Indian Female Leaders told as children’s stories), as well as skits.
- The Vatsal Chaya Trust has been working on the educational enablement of under-privileged children in urban environments in collaboration with the Education Department of Chandigarh for the last 11 years.
