In a significant move to bolster the city’s policing infrastructure, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab-cum-Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, flagged off 26 newly inducted PCR vehicles at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters, Sector 9. This initiative aims to enhance the operational efficiency and response times of the Police Control Room (PCR) units, ensuring improved safety and security for the citizens of Chandigarh.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Raj Kumar Singh, Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh; Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP, UT Chandigarh; Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (Security and Traffic); Geetanjali Khandewal, IPS, SP/City; Manjit Sheoran, IPS, SP/Hqrs; Jasbir Singh, SP/Crime, along with other senior police officials.

Following the ceremony, the Hon’ble Governor conducted a crime review meeting with Station House Officers (SHOs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs). During the session, he reviewed the police station-wise performance and functioning and emphasized key measures to strengthen law enforcement across the Union Territory.

The Hon’ble Governor highlighted the importance of:

  • Conducting regular crime meetings at every police station;
  • Ensuring proactive and effective patrolling by crime vehicles;
  • Intensifying searches in crime-prone areas;
  • Maintaining strict surveillance on known offenders;
  • Introducing a monthly ranking system for police stations based on performance;
  • Increasing the conviction rate through diligent investigation and follow-up.

He urged the police force to adopt a result-oriented approach and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to modernizing and strengthening the law enforcement apparatus to better serve the public.

This development marks a notable step forward in enhancing Chandigarh’s policing capabilities and reflects the administration’s unwavering focus on public safety and effective community service.
