Lava erupting from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has given rise to nauseous gases, glass particles and a steam cloud. This toxic steam cloud has burned several homes, created explosive eruptions and is the latest hazard caused by the volcano since it started erupting two weeks ago.
According to the USGS, this laze can be incredibly dangerous. The laze stream rising from the Pacific Ocean is a deadly mixture of hydrochloric gas with small volcanic gas particles. It can be very harmful for anyone who comes in the slightest contact with the Laze and can make them experience breathing difficulties and other irritations.
Officials have now started warning people about the risks of this haze. The interaction of laze and the ocean is polluting the air as heat from the lava boils the water dry, according to U.S. Geological Survey.
Air pressure can blow away this plume rising above the ocean causing poor air quality in the nearby areas.
