Ministers’ statement on Green Shirt Day

The Voice of Canada News:

Jinny Sims, Minister of Citizens’ Services, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, have issued the following statement in recognition of Green Shirt Day and Humboldt Broncos defenceman Logan Boulet’s legacy inspiring people throughout Canada to register as organ donors:

“In honour of Green Shirt Day and the incredible compassion of Humboldt Broncos defenceman Logan Boulet, we want to strongly encourage all British Columbians to ensure their decisions on organ donation are registered with BC Transplant.

“This past weekend’s anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash was a difficult time for many families and communities in Canada. On this day, it is so important that we stand with our neighbours and continue to support them in the wake of this tragedy.

“Becoming an organ donor can be a difficult decision. Fortunately, we have caring staff at 62 Service BC locations throughout the province who are ready to help people make sure their donor status is up to date and verified. Service BC has helped register more than 85,000 British Columbians with BC Transplant since 2015.

“Logan Boulet’s choice to become an organ donor at the age of 21 helped save six lives and inspired more than 100,000 Canadians to register. His courage is an example for all of us.

“Today, we recognize the importance of maintaining the momentum generated through Logan’s life-saving legacy. If you are uncertain about your status, please visit: http://register.transplant.bc.ca/verification – and enter your personal health number.

“There are currently about 680 people in B.C. waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Local Service BC offices can help answer any questions people may have and assist with the registration process. It takes two minutes, and one donor has the potential to save up to eight lives.

“Today, we honour the #LoganBouletEffect and encourage our friends and family to talk about organ donation. Together, we can ensure Logan’s gift spurs more people to make this life-saving decision.”
