MP Sahota: Our Focus is A Stronger and More Resilient Canada

Federal Liberal Government Delivers a New Speech from the Throne

The Voice of Canada News:

Brampton, ON – Ruby Sahota, the Member of Parliament for Brampton North, applauds Speech from the Throne as it discusses the Government’s plan to continue protecting Canadians from COVID-19 in the short-term and outlines its vision of building Canada back better in the medium- to long-term.

From the start of this pandemic, the Federal Government remained committed to keeping Canadians safe and healthy, ensuring supports for employers and businesses, investing in promising treatments and vaccines against the virus, ensuring a safe return to school for our kids, and protecting jobs. The Government’s quick action helped to keep Canadians safe, but the battle against this global pandemic is far from over.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our daily lives and has had an enormous impact on many families,” said MP Sahota. “This virus is the fight of our generation and our Government’s Speech from the Throne proposes a way forward that ensures the safety of Canadian families like yours and mine while rebuilding a more resilient Canada that works for everyone.”

The Speech from the Throne builds on the Government’s important work over the last several months. It includes commitments such as:

• creating one million jobs
• ending chronic homelessness;
• establishing new national standards for long-term care;
• accelerating universal pharmacare;
• creating a Canada-wide early learning and childcare system;
• building more affordable housing;
• and continuing to fight climate change and invest in green technology.

Through the Speech from the Throne, the Government also is making sure everyone can participate to their full potential, by continuing to make progress on reconciliation, fighting systemic racism, and protecting our diversity – because our differences enrich Canada, whatever the colour of our skin, our culture, or our language.
