Peel Police Service Board Elects Chair and Vice-Chair for 2024; Welcomes Matt Mahoney as New Board Member

Region of Peel -Peel Regional Chair Nando Iannicca has been re-elected as the Chair of the Peel Police Service Board during its January Board meeting for the 2024 calendar year. At the same meeting, Sumeeta Kohli has been re-elected as Vice-Chair. These key appointments come following a vote by their esteemed colleagues at the first Board meeting of the year.

In addition to the re-election of Chair Iannicca and Vice-Chair Kohli, the Peel Police Service Board proudly welcomes Mississauga Councillor Matt Mahoney as its newest Board member. Councillor Mahoney steps into the role, succeeding Bonnie Crombie as the Mississauga representative appointed by the Regional Council.

Chair Iannicca, who presides over the Regional Council and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Municipality of Peel, plays a pivotal role in representing Peel and its residents on matters of regional significance. His dedication to community service is reflected in his extensive history of volunteering with organizations such as the Trillium Hospital Foundation, Red Cross, Mississauga Symphony, and the Mississauga Food Bank.

Expressing gratitude for his re-election, Chair Iannicca stated, “It is my privilege to continue to serve as Chair of the Peel Police Service Board. I am honored that my Board colleagues chose once again to place their trust in me and to allow me the opportunity to serve in this important role. I look forward to working with Chief Duraiappah and Peel Regional Police on focusing on community safety and well-being.”

Vice-Chair Sumeeta Kohli, a seasoned marketing expert and business leader, brings over two decades of experience in marketing, innovation, technology, and community service sectors. As Chair of the Board’s Governance and Human Rights Committee, her commitment to diversity and inclusion and a passion for community well-being make her an exemplary community leader.

“It is my pleasure to serve as a member of the Police Service Board,” added Vice-Chair Kohli. “The opportunity to continue to serve as Vice-Chair is a role that I will take very seriously and hope to contribute to community safety and well-being in Peel.”

Councillor Matt Mahoney, a lifelong resident of Mississauga, joins the Board with a rich background in community service and over 20 years of experience in the private sector. His extensive involvement in various committees within the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel demonstrates his commitment to effective representation and leadership.

As the current Chair of the Environmental Action Committee and a member of other committees, such as the Accessibility Advisory Committee, both City and Regional, Advertising Review Panel, Budget, Governance (Vice Chair), Planning and Development, Mississauga Public Library Board, Towing and Trucking Industry Advisory, Waste Management Strategic Advisory Committee, and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, Councillor Mahoney brings valuable insights and dedication to his role. “I am deeply honored to contribute to the Peel Police Service Board and remain committed to working collaboratively for the safety and well-being of our community,” said Mahoney.
