Premier Doug Ford Meets with Canada’s Premiers about Internal Trade, Economic Growth

The Voice of Canada News| July 10, 2019

SASKATOON — Premier Doug Ford joins Canada’s provincial and territorial leaders at the Council of the Federation summer meeting in Saskatoon to advocate for removing barriers to internal trade, promoting job creation and economic growth, and strengthening health care.

“I’m bringing a clear message to our partners — Ontario is open for business and open for jobs. We want to work with every province to grow internal trade and support a thriving economy,” said Ford. “I’m looking forward to exploring the potential for greater economic partnerships outside our provincial borders and making it easier for businesses to do the same.”

Ontario is taking a leadership role in getting rid of red tape and outdated regulations that hinder internal trade. Premier Ford has committed to working with every province or territory to help create a pro-jobs environment, leading to economic growth, new investment and new customers for businesses.

Ontario continues to work with provincial partners to make life more affordable for Canadians and support Canadian jobs and businesses. This includes opposing punishing federal policies such as the carbon tax and Bill C-69.

“While we are disappointed in recent decisions by the Saskatchewan and Ontario courts of appeal, our government continues to stand united with our provincial partners against job-killing federal policies like the carbon tax and Bill C-69. Our position remains the same — these policies force Canadians to pay more for everyday necessities like gas and home heating, while putting Canadian jobs and businesses at risk,” said Ford.

Ontario will also work with provincial and territorial partners across the federation to help protect what matters most to Canadians, including calling on the federal government to do their fair share to invest in and strengthen provincial and territorial health care systems.
