Parliament is Back in Session: TIAC

The Voice of Canada News

It has been a busy start to 2018 for elected representatives on “the Hill”. As they entered the third year of the Liberal government’s mandate, will soon begin to prepare for the next election. 2017 was by all accounts a great year for tourism. In the federal budget last spring, Destination Canada received secure and sustainable funding levels revived to $95.5 million a year. There was also funding contributed to the development of Indigenous tourism & Statistics Canada to broaden tourism data collection. The federal government also announced this year a New Tourism Vision and the 2018 Canada-China year of tourism, initiatives supported by TIAC and the industry.

Now is not the time for complacency. They must continue to build on the momentum that began in 2016, and take this industry to new heights in 2018 and beyond. In pre-budget submission for this year, TIAC has outlined recommendations to government that will ensure the tourism industry will prosper, and allows the industry to meet the NTV goals. Full recommendations can be found here.

TIAC will continue to update the industry on their efforts to show policymakers why #TourismMatters.
