A delegation of the Market Committee, Sector 19-C, Chandigarh met Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, to reiterate its long-pending request for permitting the conversion of existing SCO buildings in Phase-1 sectors (Sectors 7 to 30) into box-type structures similar in design to the SCOs in the Phase-2 sectors of the city.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted that various market associations of the Phase-1 sectors had previously made numerous representations to the Administration in this regard. The delegation submitted that permitting box-type structures would ensure better utilization of space, improve safety, enhance the aesthetic appearance of commercial markets, support economic growth, and promote greater uniformity in Chandigarh’s planned urban development.

The delegation also submitted that extending this provision to the Phase-1 sectors would ensure parity in development norms and facilitate equitable treatment of similarly situated SCO properties across Chandigarh.

The Hon’ble Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation, acknowledged the concerns raised, and assured that the matter would be examined sympathetically in consultation with the concerned authorities.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to present its case, the Market Committee, Sector 19-C, Chandigarh expressed hope that the Administration would take an early and positive decision on this long-pending issue, bringing much-needed relief to hundreds of SCO owners and traders across the Phase-1 sectors of Chandigarh.

The delegation comprised Vinod Talwar, Vivek Manchanda, Chandan Bhatia, and Anshul Arora.
