Pierre Poilievre Storms Back to Parliament with By-Election Victory
The Voice of Canada
Ottawa, August 19, 2025 – Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has returned to Parliament with a commanding win in the Battle River–Crowfoot by-election in Alberta, securing nearly 80% of the vote. The landslide victory marks a significant political comeback just months after he lost his Carleton seat in the last federal election.

Poilievre’s return cements his position once again as Leader of the Opposition, setting up a renewed face-off with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Yet the triumph comes with challenges: under party rules, he faces a leadership review in January. Internal critics, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford, have already questioned his ability to lead the Conservatives into the next election.

Beyond party politics, Poilievre must now prove his footing on key national issues. Trade and tariff disputes with the United States are expected to test his policy approach, while pollsters warn that his popularity remains notably weaker among women voters—a gap he must close to broaden the party’s appeal.
The by-election itself drew nationwide attention for its unusual circumstances. Elections Canada was forced to introduce write-in ballots after the Longest Ballot Committee, a protest group, fielded more than 200 candidates, creating one of the most crowded contests in Canadian history.

For now, Poilievre’s decisive victory has put him firmly back in the national spotlight. The months ahead will determine whether he can transform this momentum into lasting political survival and renewed strength for the Conservative Party.
